One of the winners of a brand new bicycle, donated and given away during Carson Elementary's last day character assembly.

Cherry Valley Elementary students dressed in spirit wear during the last day. Students raised $605 for Plaza Towers Elementary in Moore, Okla., by donating 50 cents a day for various fun activities or clothing.

Hillview Elementary's first Relay Recess raised $3,405 for the American Cancer Society. We hope to make the event an annual tradition.

Photos from 1940s-1970s available at ASC

As we were packing up for our big move to the old Roosevelt Middle School later this year, Administrative Service Center staff has come across a treasure trove of old photos dating as far back as the 1940s (including the 1947 state basketball championship team). Photos include various sports teams from Newark High School, Central Jr. High, Kennedy and more, as well as prom courts and plays. If you are interested in looking through the photos to see if you recognize any of them, stop by the ASC, 85 E. Main Street, between 8 and 4 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. (or 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays) to have a look. A photo gallery of some of the photos is here.

John Clem Boundary Change Approved, Hillview open house dates

On Monday, June 10, the Newark Board of Education approved the changing of John Clem Elementary’s boundary lines — the first adjustment that has been made to the boundaries in the district since they were redrawn four years ago. All students who live north of English Avenue between 21^st Street and Mount Vernon Road, or further north along Mount Vernon, will now attend Hillview Elementary.
