White Field Construction update, June 30
Dan DeLawder presented the overall White Field plan to the Board of Education on June 30, giving some insight into the plans for White Field beyond the field replacement.
White Field is receiving an upgrade this summer, in the form of artificial turf — paid fully by private donations. Find photos of the current progress here, and a video of the progress here, as of June 26.

NCS to host job fair for classified positions
Newark City Schools will host a job fair for classified employee positions from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, in a meeting room at the Roosevelt building, 621 Mount Vernon Road. The entrance to the job fair will be from the rear parking lot of the building. Classified employees include bus drivers, cafeteria workers, secretaries, classroom aides and custodians. Beginning positions will primarily be for part-time work, but could expand to full-time in the future. Attendees will be able to meet with district department heads, and will have the chance to learn about the various opportunities available within Newark City Schools. If you have any questions about the fair prior to the event, please email Kathy White at kwhite@laca.org. 
Support Angels of 1989 by eating at Elements on July 21
The Newark High School's Class of 1989 "Angels of 1989" is holding a fundraiser on Tues., July 21, at the Elements Local Bistro, 50 N. 2nd St., in Newark, inside the DoubleTree hotel. The restaurant's Dine 2 Donate program will give 10 percent of all food sales throughout the day to the Angels of 1989 program. The program, which you can find more about here, was created by class officers to help current Newark High School students with various expenses based on student need. 
Save on a mattress, support Wildcat football on Aug. 2
Is it time for a new mattress at home? Now you can save some money on a new mattress and support Newark Wildcat football at the same time. The team is hosting its first ever mattress sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sun., Aug. 2, in the NHS Commons. Visit the Facebook event here, or download this flyer for more information.

School may be out for the summer, but that doesn't mean that all is silent at Newark City Schools. Click "Read More" to find a round-up of the great things that are happening this summer, as well as important announcements related to the 2015-16 school year. 
High School golf tryouts scheduled for Aug. 1, 3
Golf team tryouts for the Newark Wildcats will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 1, at Golfland in Granville, and beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Mon., Aug. 3, at the Trout Club. Students will need to bring their physical and Emergency Medical Forms as well. For Granville Golfland, students need to bring $5 for golf balls. For the Trout Club tryout, students will be walking 18 holes from 7:30 to about 11:30 a.m. Contact Coach Tony Villa by email at acvilla@laca.org. The team also has a Facebook page and Twitter account that will include updates throughout the summer.
