School may be out for the summer, but that doesn't mean that all is silent at Newark City Schools. Click "Read More" to find a round-up of the great things that are happening this summer, as well as important announcements related to the 2015-16 school year. 
Meet Wildcat athletes and coaches: Family Fun Carnival set for July 18
Newark Wildcat athletes and coaches will be on-hand for a Family Fun Carnival from noon to 4 p.m. on Sat., July 18, at Newark High School. The afternoon will include inflatables, food, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, face painting, prizes and more, with all proceeds benefiting the Newark Athletic Boosters. 
NHS Jr. ROTC receives Silver Star Community Service Award
The Newark High School Jr. ROTC received the Silver Star Community Service with Excellence Award for the 2014-15 school year, the Department of the Air Force announced recently. The award recognizes the top five percent of all Jr. ROTC units based on community service in support of schools and local communities. It is based on the highest per cadet average of community service hours planned and conducted by cadets in a unit. The NHS unit was led by Kathryn Davis. 
Wildcat News Net wins student production awards
Newark High School’s Wildcat News Net students will receive awards in multiple categories from the High School Student Production Awards, which are a part of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The students will receive the awards during the Ohio Valley Emmy Awards Gala on July 25 in Lexington, Ky. 
Rally in the Alley scheduled for July 25
The annual Rally in the Alley event, sponsored by Newark City Schools AOS, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sat., July 25, in the LeFevre Courtyard at The Works. The event is for any NCS student going into grades 6-12, and offers free hair cuts, food, school supplies and uniforms, with donations courtesy of Park National Bank, Licking Memorial Hospital, Kohl's, Newark Rotary, the Licking County Family YMCA and the Elks club.
