Bowling Wildcats to host OCC Coaches Championship
The Newark High School Bowling Program and Valley Lanes are hosting an OCC Coaches Championship event at 1:30 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 8, at Valley Lanes. The tournament is open to all Ohio Capital Conference boys or girls teams, with a maximum field size of 28 teams. Entry deadline is Feb. 1, 2015, and costs $50. Spectator admission fee will be $5. December 2014 Citizens of the Month
Every month, Newark City Schools honors about 28 students from grades 4 through 12 in every school as our Citizens of the Month. Students are chosen for what they do both inside and outside of the classroom. Also every month, a different group from one of our schools performs for students and their families. This month, the Newark High School Sinfonia performed. Thank you to Newark Rotary for sponsoring this month's lunch. Find a photo gallery of the event here. Swim team booster club selling jewelry
Newark Wildcat jewelry - necklaces, earrings and bracelets - can be ordered to support the Newark High School swim team. Items cost $15. For more information, contact Helen Hall at hhall@laca.org. You can download an order form here. 
Register for youth softball in January, February
Newark Youth Softball Registration will be held at the high school auxiliary gym entrance on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., from January 17th through February 28th. Registration fee is $50.00 for 8U-14U and $25 for T-ball (4-6 year olds/co-ed). Please contact Heidi Hewitt at 740-405-7198 or Quincy Jackson at 740-877-8768 if you have any questions. 
Liberty Middle School Students Participate in Be E3 Smart Energy Program
Teacher Rebecca Holloway and 7th grade students from Liberty Middle School are excited to be involved in Be E3 Smart, an energy efficiency education program sponsored by local electric cooperative, Ohio Electric Cooperatives. This program brings math and science learning into the classroom and students’ homes by teaching ways to reduce energy demand and use. The program correlates with the Ohio Academic Content Standards and promotes student leadership through its innovative school-to-home model. 
NHS Jr. ROTC Kitty Hawk Society Induction
Nineteen members of the Newark High School Air Force Jr. ROTC were inducted into the Kitty Hawk Air Society recently. The Kitty Hawk Air Society is an academic honorary society for JROTC cadets. To be invited to joint, sophomore through junior cadets must be of good character, have a B average in JROTC and an overall GPA of 3.0 without any failing grades during the preceding grading period. This is the first class of the society from NHS. Congratulations to all inductees.
