Welcome to Newark City Schools!

This is a very exciting time for our school district. Our students have improved their scores on state tests for six straight years and we are in the process of a major district-wide construction and renovation project.

The Ohio Department of Education report card for Newark City Schools shows that our students are continuing to achieve more and more inside the classroom. Thirteen of the buildings tested last year earned ratings of either “excellent” or “effective.” The district as a whole is rated “effective.” Students also increased the district’s overall Performance Index score to an all-time high of 94.

We can all be proud of the new and renovated school facilities we are creating for our students. Three new buildings - Hillview Elementary School, Carson Elementary School and Liberty Middle School – opened in August. Two more new buildings – Legend Elementary School and Cherry Valley Elementary School – will open during the school year. The next step in the community-designed construction plan is to renovate Wilson Middle School and Ben Franklin Elementary School. Within a few years, every Newark student will be able to enjoy a safe, up-to-date and technology-ready classroom!

This massive construction and renovation effort was made possible by a joint effort between the Ohio School Facilities Commission and Newark voters with OSFC paying 51% of the cost.
