Before reporting a computer problem, please review the following:
-
Restart Your Computer
If you are experiencing unusual problems, or if your computer has locked up, the
first thing to do is to restart
your computer. Most of the time, this will resolve the problem.
If your computer will not restart or shut-down, turn the power off. If you are
unable to turn the machine off using the power switch, remove the power cord
supplying electric to the back of the computer. Wait a few minutes and then
replace the power cable.
-
Check the Cables
Be sure there are no cables hanging loose. All of the cables at the back of your
computer should be connected somewhere. If there is a stray cable, that’s
probably the problem. In most cases, the cables are color-coded – for example,
a red plug should be in a red hole.
If you have lost sound on your computer, most of the time this is due to
unplugged speakers.
-
Check the Power
Be sure all of the power strips are turned on. Be sure of the equipment is
plugged in. The larger power plugs can easily become unplugged. Sometimes
equipment that is never turned off gets turned off unexpectedly.
Most of the equipment has power indicator lights – be sure they are on.
-
Check the Monitor Power Switch
If the monitor is turned off but the computer is turned on, it is easy to
believe the computer is not working. Check the power cable that plugs into the
back of your monitor. It can easily become dislodged or unplugged, causing a
non-responsive monitor.
Again, look for the power indicator lights on the monitor.
-
Make sure the Network Hub is plugged in
The mini-hub has an unusually large electrical plug that can easily become
unplugged. There should be green flashing lights on the front of this hub. If
not, then the unit is unplugged.
The hub should be connected to every computer with a network cable that
resembles a thick telephone cord. There should also be a cable connecting the
hub to a network jack on your wall.
-
Make sure the Computer is properly logged into the Network
The computer should either be logged on to the Novell network using your
username or the username for your classroom. If you leave your machines on
after school hours and the network goes down for any reason, the machines may
need to be restarted.
Again, if you are experiencing unusual problems, the first thing you should do
is frestart your computer.
If you have checked the above items and you are still experiencing problems,
please submit an online repair form using the link below. A technician will
receive your report and be by soon to make the necessary repairs.
