Every Month, Newark City Schools honors 30 students in grades 4 through 12 from across the district as Citizens of the Month, for their leadership and actions inside and outside of the classroom. Students and their families are invited to a lunch in their honor to celebrate their achievements. The March 2024 Citizen of the Month luncheon was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Newark. Tryouts for Newark middle school and high school cheerleading squads will be held the week of April 29. Clinics will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday. A new school year calendar for the 2024-2025 school year was approved by the Newark Board of Education during its March 11, 2024, meeting. The calendar replaces the previous, monthly late arrival days with four full-day professional development days spread throughout the school year. You can find the full calendar by clicking. The change to professional development days comes following the recent approval of a new contract with the Newark Teachers' Association. The change will be better for students, families and staff members.
