District to add text messages to all-call service

With winter approaching, the Newark City School District is adding text messages to our notification service. The district uses SchoolMessenger to communicate important messages to families, including closings, delays and other announcements. Beginning on November 19, text messages will be added to the ways we communicate with families. At 5 p.m. on Nov. 19, families with cell phones will receive a text message from the number, 67587, asking if they would like to receive text messages. Families can opt-in to the messages by replying. More information about can be found by clicking this link.

In order to receive the messages, our district must have your cell phone number on file. If you currently receive our mass phone calls on your cell phone, you should receive the text message. If you would like your cell phone to be added to the system for text messages, you may contact your child's school to add the number to our student information system.

Parents also have the ability to add their own cell phone numbers to SchoolMessenger by visiting this link and following the instructions
