Honor the Service: World War II
Honor the Service: World War IIJoin us at the Newark-Heath Airport on Heath Road in Heath, OH on Saturday, August 26th, as we revisit the historic events of World War II. The WWII Traveling Memorial set up on the tarmac is a replica of the one in Washington DC. This massive memorial with its 23 panels, thousands of stars, pavilions, and 56 pillars will demonstrate America’s extensive involvement in WWII. Click on the following flyer for more information: Flyer.

The memorial will be surrounded by WWII planes – Douglas C-47, B-25 Mitchell, P-51 Mustang, and 4 Stinsons – that will begin landing at 10:00am. The public is welcome to step on board the C-47 and B-25 for a minimal fee ($5 to $6). You can also book a Flyable Historical Aircraft Experience on the C-47 Yankee Doodle Dandy online at www.YankeeAirMuseum.org.

The opening ceremony at 11:30am, that includes a military flair, will honor all veterans and pay special tribute to Licking County veterans who served during WWII. The day is packed with speakers, patriotic music, military static displays, exhibits, and WWII movies. Following the closing ceremony at 6:00pm, the public will be treated to a patriotic music concert from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

The event is free and the public is encouraged to come early and spend the day. Food will be available from food vendors.

Honor the Service: World War II is hosted by the Friendship Club of Licking County, Licking County Veterans Service Commission, and other sponsors.
