Music Programs Earn Top Honors
The Newark High School Symphonic Band and Choir earned top honors at contests sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association this past weekend.


Late Arrival is Thursday, March 11
Thursday is the Late Arrival day for the month of March. Transportation services will be available, but buses will pick up students in the morning two hours later.


Pay for Lunch Online Beginning March 15
Parents will be able to pay for their child’s lunch online beginning March 15.


Community Forum About Dress Code Set for March 18
The first of two community meetings regarding the new dress code for next school year is set for 6:30 p.m. March 18 in the Newark High School Auditorium. Parents with students in grades 5-11 should attend.


NHS Alters Schedule Due to OGT
The schedule at Newark High School will be different the week of March 15-19.


March Madness
If you say March Madness at Legend Elementary, the students won’t think basketball. No, for these students it’s all about reading. For the next two weeks, students will be reading lots and lots of books.


Celebrating Dr. Seuss
It was a week of celebration over at Carson Elementary. Kindergartners remembered Dr. Seuss’s birthday with daily events and activities.




About Newark High School
Newark High School is a 10-building, campus-style school residing on more than 50 acres in the heart of the Newark community. Enrollment averages about 1700 students, with about 150 additional students attending the Career Technical Education Center (C-TEC), also located in Newark.

The campus features a building dedicated for chemistry and physics courses, several general classroom buildings, a library/media center, an alternative school, an administrative building that also offers learning space, a performing arts center that houses a large auditorium, a large weight-training facility and a gymnasium. More than 190 teachers, counselors, librarians, educational aides, volunteers and other staff members support students throughout their education on campus.

Newark High School is on a semester schedule.

NHS offers a wide array of quality classes for students, as well as solid requirements.

In addition to quality academics, A Call to College prepares students for life after graduation by giving Newark students scholarships. The non-profit has a $3.5 million endowment and gives more than $120,000 in scholarships annually. A Call to College also helps students and their parents fill out financial aid forms, qualify for other scholarships, and discus college options, money issues and time management with high school juniors.

Many NHS students are involved in extra-curricular activities.

NHS’ athletic teams include football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, co-ed cross country, baseball, softball, boys and girls tennis, swimming and a cheerleading squad.

NHS’ outstanding fine arts program includes the Pride of Newark, the high school’s marching band which has earned “superior” ratings 20 out of the last 25 times it have competed in state finals. The choirs regularly advance to state finals and the orchestra was recently rated “excellent.” Other activities on campus include plays, musicals, special interest and honor clubs and publications such as The Compendium, the school’s newspaper, and Reveille, the yearbook.
