Register Now for Power of Positive Parenting Seminar on May 8

The Power of Positive Parenting Triple P seminar will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on May 8 at the YMCA in the John and Christine Warner Family Center. The seminar equips parents to create an encouraging learning environment, have reasonable expecattions for kids and helps kids take responsibility for their actions. Trivia Night grades 3, 4, & 5

Students (grades 3, 4 & 5) and their parents are invited to Family Trivia Night on April 24th from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  This event will take place in room 130.  Join us for some family fun!

Class Pictures

Date Change: Class pictures and individual spring pictures will be taken April 7th.  This is a prepaid sale.

Intermediate Title 1 Breakfast

Students in grades 3, 4 & 5 are invited to have breakfast with their parents and teachers to prepare for the upcoming Ohio Achievement Assessments on April 10th from 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. in the school library.

Family Reading Night

Join us April 9th at 5:00 p.m. for our next family reading night.  We will make a butterfly snack and a rain stick.  We will also practice sequencing events and retelling a story.

School Spirit Day

April 17th is School Spirit Crazy Socks Day.  Don’t forget to show your school spirit every Tuesday by wearing your Ben Franklin T-Shirt or your favorite shade of blue.

COSI on Wheels

COSI on Wheels – Incredible Human Machine will be visiting our school on April 2nd.  This is truly a special event for the students and staff of Ben Franklin Elementary.  Thanks to the Boeing Corporation for sponsoring this event.  A special thank you goes out to all of our volunteers who make this a great day of hands-on learning.

Ben Franklin T-shirt Tuesday

Every Tuesday is Ben Franklin T-shirt Tuesday.  Please wear your shirts and show your school spirit.  

Skating Party

Join us April 1st from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for the Ben Franklin Skating Party.  This event will take place a Roll Away Skating Rink on W. Church Street.  Admission is $5 per person and this includes regular skate rental.

Parent & Principal Partnership Meeting

Join us on April 17th at 4:00 p.m. for our Parent & Principal Partnership meeting. Come and share your thoughts and ideas to help us create a great school environment.  We will also continue planning the events for the Spring Carnival and begin painting the games for the carnival.

2014-15 Calendar Now Available

The 2014-15 school year calendar has now been approved by the Board of Education. Find the full calendar at this link, or under Calendar at the top navigation bar. The school year will begin for students on August 20 and end on May 28. Spring break has been moved back a week, to the week of March 30 due to the state testing schedule.

3rd Annual Summer Wrestling Camp features NCAA coaches, national champions

The Newark Wildcat wrestling program is very excited to announce the 3rd Annual Newark Summer Wrestling Technique and Competition Camp to be held at Wilson Middle School on 6/15-6/21. Click the link for the flier: Newark Wrestling Camp 2014

This year's camp will feature two NCAA Division 1 Head Coaches (Tom Ryan-The Ohio State University and Scott Goodale-Rutgers University), 2 national champions (Logan Stieber-3x Div. 1 NCAA Champion and Nick Spencer 1x Div.2 NCAA Champion), and 2x Div. 1 All-American and 2011 Central District Coach of the Year (Mark Marinelli).

Sign up for summer girls basketball camps now

It's time to sign up now for summer girls basketball camp for girls entering grades 2 through 8 next year. Students entering middle school grades will have camp on June 4, 5, 6 and 9 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Newark High School gym. More information and a registration form is here. This camp costs $60 per camper. The elementary camp will be from June 10 through 13, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the NHS gym. The cost is $45 per camper, and a registration form is available here.

NCS raises $9,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Teams from nine Newark City Schools buildings collected more than $9,000 for the March Bowl for Kids fundraiser to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Licking and Perry County. The fundraiser was held on March 15 at Park Lanes in Heath, and saw more than $100,000 collected in total. Newark City Schools is proud to play a part in raising money for the organization.

Carson Elementary led all participating educational institutions in raising money for the event, with $3,300 raised. The other NCS buildings that participated are: Ben Franklin, Cherry Valley, John Clem, McGuffey, Heritage, Wilson and the Administrative Service Center. Thank you to all employees who donated their money and time, and to Big Brothers Big Sisters for their support of Newark children.

The Newark Wildcat Basketball Cat Camp is now accepting registration for summer sessions in June for boys beginning in 1st grade. The camp provides the foundation for young players to develop basketball skills, and welcomes children of all talent levels. OAA Dates now set for Newark City Schools
Newark City Schools' Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) dates have been adjusted due to the large amount of days missed due to the weather this year. The State of Ohio extending the testing window to allow districts more time to prepare for the tests. We will be giving the reading test on April 29; Math on May 1; and Science on May 6. This is for both the elementary and middle school tests.

The Licking County Food Pantry is now servicing families in the Ben Franklin attendance area at their Market Street Pantry located at 37.5 S. 4th Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Find registration instructions here, and visit the Parent Portal here. You must have your student's ID number handy, as well as the main contact number registered with your child's school.
