All blizzard bag 1 assignments now available

Blizzard bag assignment 1 was recently sent home or made available to all students. Assignments are available here, with middle and high school assignments housed on separate pages. If you cannot find your child's assignment, please contact his or her teacher(s). Elementary assignments were sent home on Feb. 28 and are due by March 14; middle and high school assignments are available as of March 7, and will be due by March 21.
Parents' Night Out: Enjoy a night free of children and support Girls Basketball

Parents: Are you ready for a night out — or in — without the kids? Drop them off with the Newark Wildcat girls basketball team and staff on Friday, March 21, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Newark High School. The night is for any child in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Find more information here. Also, complete the emergency medical authorization form with your payment.
Register for kindergarten the week of April 7-11

It's nearly time to register for kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year at Newark City Schools. Parents can register their children the week of April 7 through April 11 at their school of attendance. February 2014 Citizens of the Month

Thank you to the Newark Lions Club for sponsoring the February 2014 Citizen of the Month Luncheon. Every month, Newark City Schools recognizes 28 students in grades 4 through 12 as citizens of the month, chosen for their classwork as well as their leadership outside the classroom. Board approves alternative make-up days

The Newark City Schools Board of Education approved an alternative calamity make-up day resolution during the regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 10. The resolution will be sent to the Ohio Department of Education for approval. The plan will allow the district to make up calamity days through the use of online lessons or “blizzard bags.” Between now and Feb. 21, Newark teachers will develop lessons that will be posted on the district website or can be sent home with students. Teachers will let students know the due date for each assignments if we need to make up any additional days.
McGuffey Elementary named a 2013 School of Promise

McGuffey Elementary was named a 2013 School of Promise by the state of Ohio, the Ohio Department of Education announced. McGuffey is one of 141 schools in the state to receive the recognition this year, and it is the sixth time the school has been recognized — McGuffey also received the award in 2011. Legend Elementary was named a School of Promise in 2012. Read the letter announcing the award here.
Add additional phone numbers, emails to all-call system

Parents can now add up to ten phone numbers and five email addresses to the Blackboard Connect system through MyConnect. Find registration instructions here, and visit the Parent Portal here. You must have your student's ID number handy, as well as the main contact number registered with your child's school. If you need to update that main number, please contact your child's school.
