District Departments
The Newark City School District serves approximately 6,500 students in 12 buildings - seven elementary schools (Grades K-5), three middle schools (Grades 6-8), one high school (Grades 9-12) and a digital academy (Grades K-12).
Located 30 miles east of Columbus, the Newark City School District is the largest district in Licking County. Our licensed staff members, 53 percent of whom have advanced degrees, teach challenging classes that use the latest technology as well as tried-and-true methods.
The high school offers an array of AP courses and other opportunities to prepare students for post-secondary education. Students are encouraged to participate in their choice of athletic, scholarly and fine arts activities.
Meeting the needs of the entire community is fundamental. In partnership with parents, post-secondary educational institutions and businesses, the district is shaping curriculum and instruction to ensure all students are successful. Our Student Services department delivers a full range of services to disabled students, from ages 3 to 21.
Residents show support for the Newark City Schools in many ways. They volunteer in our classrooms and participate in PTAs.
The business community also takes an active role in our schools by sending employees to talk about their careers or teach a lesson in personal finance.
If you are considering moving to Newark, we invite you to visit our schools. For more information, call (740) 670-7000 or e-mail
