The food service department encourages parents to pre-pay for meals through an online service called myschoolbucks.com.
 
 Families have the ability to make secure online food account payments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To set up an account you need a valid e-mail address, a credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) and your child's PIN number. Each child in your family can be set up on the same account. Money added to the account typically displays in less than 24 hours. You can also set up e-mail reminders to notify you when the account balance gets low. For more information, click here.

A hungry child cannot learn. Our breakfast program offers all children a critical jump start at the beginning of their school day. Children who aren’t hungry feel better and are ready to learn. Studies have found that students who eat breakfast have higher math and reading scores, fewer visits to the nurse and better behavior.

School lunches provide one-third of the recommended dietary intake for calories, protein and vitamins A and C, iron and calcium. On average a meal contains less than 30 percent of calories from fat and less than 10 percent from saturated fat. In recent years, Newark City Schools has increased the use of whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables.
