Elementary tennis camp set for July 8-12

Newark High School is hosting a tennis camp from 6 to 8 p.m. July 8-12 at the NHS tennis courts for boys and girls entering grades 1-5 next school year. The camp will include coaching from Newark high school and middle school tennis coaches and varsity tennis players from the boys and girls teams. Summer is coming soon. You may be thinking about what your child will do for meals while school is out. The good news is that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has partnered in your local community and agencies to serve free meals.  It’s food that’s in, while school is out.  There are no income requirements, and any child under the age of 18 is invited to eat. Superintendent Doug Ute to receive award for Prevention Excellence from Youth Leadership

Newark City Schools Superintendent Doug Ute was surprised Tuesday by members from the Youth Leadership Council of Licking County. The students revealed that Mr. Ute is this year's recipient of the Ruth Satterfield Award for Prevention Excellence. The Ruth Satterfield Award for Prevention Excellence is given to an individual who actively supports youth development and advances youth prevention across Licking County. Students in the council — from high schools across the county — nominate and vote on recipients for the award. Mr. Ute was chosen due to Newark City Schools' commitment to social and emotional awareness.

NHS senior Andrew Saladino receives Ohio ESC award

Newark High School senior Andrew Saladino received a 2019 Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award from the Ohio Educational Service Center Association recently. The program, named in honor of Ohio's 31st State Superintendent, was established in 1989 to promote and recognize outstanding student leaders for their academic achievement and service to their schools and communities. One senior from each county is eligible for the award. Andrew is one of 84 students statewide to receive it this year.

NHS art show premieres April 30

The annual spring Newark High School art show opening will be held Tuesday, April 30, in the center of G-Building (the Hub) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.  Light refreshments will be provided by the NHS Art Club.
