NHS Literary Magazine receives award
The first edition of Newark High School’s literary magazine, Athenaeum, was recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English as “Above Average” for 2015. The NCTE’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines recognized just 11 high school literary magazines in Ohio as “Above Average” or better.

The program recognizes students, teachers and schools for producing excellent literary magazines. Its mission is to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines, seeking excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production.

Newark High School students published Athenaeum for the first time in spring 2015. You can download it here. Students are working on a second edition that will be published later this spring.
