Summer 2019 educational opportunities for NCS students
Summer Learning Opportunities
Newark City Schools offers a variety of experiences for students during the summer, from STEM Camp to Foreign Language Camp and more. Please click the below links to find out more information about summer learning opportunities offered in the district:

Newark City Schools will be hosting a weeklong free STEM Camp for NCS students entering grades 3 -12 from June 17-21.
This camp will be centered around space and what it will take to build a colony on Mars. Students will explore the make-up of Mars (virtual reality), getting to Mars (rockets), exploring Mars (robotic rovers and drones), and building a colony structure (civil engineering).
Students will also experience space/science at The Works and take a “Journey to Mars” in the SciDome, a 30 ft, 4K projection planetarium.

Foreign Language Camp 
A Foreign Language Camp for Newark City Schools students currently in grades 4-6 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on July 22 through July 26 at Newark High School. The camp is free and open to the first 35 students to register in each language — Spanish and French. During the week, students will learn basic French or Spanish, learn cultural songs and games, prepare and eat traditional foods, hear traditional stories and create crafts. Girls Coding Camp
Newark City Schools is providing a “girls only” coding camp. Any girls who attend Newark City Schools and are entering Grades 6-9 during the 2019-2020 year are eligible. Girls will have the opportunity to create programs that highlight their interests while learning basic coding. Registration forms are available at all Newark Elementary and Middle School Offices, or can be downloaded by clicking this link. Forms are due back Friday, May 17, at any school office. The camp lasts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day July 8-12 in the Newark High School Media Center. Free lunch is provided for all attendees.  

Kindergarten Readiness Academy 
Incoming kindergarten students for the 2019-20 school year have the opportunity to attend Newark City Schools' Kindergarten Readiness Academy this summer. The four-week program is geared toward helping incoming students become comfortable in the school setting, while exposing students to letters, numbers, literature, science, math and art concept. The free program meets from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays during the weeks of July 8, 15, 22 and 29.
