State Farm Awards Grants to A Call to College and Newark City Schools

At a recent board meeting, State Farm® awarded grants totaling nearly $30,000 to A Call to College and Newark City Schools in support of academic achievement. A Call to College received $4,000 for the ACT Now! program and $15,000 for the Providing Early Awareness and Knowledge (PEAK) program. ACT Now! motivates students to prepare for the ACT, directs them to take the ACT in the spring of their Junior year, and assists them in overcoming barriers inherent in the test registration and completion process. PEAK targets younger students and emphasizes the positive correlation between educational attainment and earning power, the consequences of dropping out of school, and the importance of understanding how to manage money.

The Academic Opportunity for Success (AOS) program at Newark High School received $10,000 from State Farm. AOS is an initiative that helps students overcome barriers through participation in a comprehensive program of individualized guidance, mentoring, and education that develops the skills needed to graduate from high school and succeed in life.
