Juliana Porter (Madame Porter)

Teacher/Staff Contact:

Bonjour! My name is Juli Porter and I am one of the French teachers here at NHS. This is my 14th year teaching in Newark, and I have taught all different levels of French. Before that, I taught at Marietta Middle and High Schools for three years. However, Newark is my home. I grew up here and attended Central Elementary, John Clem, Roosevelt Jr. High and graduated from NHS in 1990. After high school, I attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated with a degree in French and minors in English and Music. I also have a Master's Degree in Education from OSU.

I love to teach French because I like to introduce my students to the French-speaking world. My parents instilled in me a love of other cultures and a passion to travel and experience new things. I love to travel to new places and have been to several countries in Europe as well as several parts of the USA. My dream is to one day travel to a French-speaking African country like Morocco, Senegal or Madagascar.
Along with traveling, my other passion is music. I sing as much as I possibly can (which my students will learn) and have been involved in several church and community choirs. Currently, I also direct a children’s choir at my church.
If I have free time, I choose to read, garden, ride my bike or go on a hike somewhere beautiful, like the Hocking Hills or Blackhand Gorge with my husband Dave. Also, I am hooked on watching HGTV home improvement shows, but I have an old house and am always looking for new ideas.
I hope you will take foreign language classes and be involved in French or Spanish club, maybe even take a trip with us to another country.
Au revoir!
