NHS senior's art selected as top 25 in Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition
Newark High School senior Jazmin Harkin has loved art as long as she can remember, and hopes to turn that passion into a career. One of her pottery sets she created this year has been selected in the Top 25 of all entries in the 2019 Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition. More than 11,000 art entries were submitted from Ohio high schools. Of those, 300 will be on display for the 49th Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition from April 22 through May 16 at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus. Jazmin is the first Newark High School student to be recognized with the Top 25 Award.  Read More...

Kindergarten Registration set for April 15-26
With spring approaching, it’s now time to start thinking about registering your child for kindergarten. Newark City Schools is holding its annual Kindergarten Registration period from April 15 through 26 at the district office, located at 621 Mount Vernon Road in Newark. Parents can register their children for kindergarten between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Wed., April 17 and 24, registration will be open until 7 p.m. to accommodate later schedules. It is helpful to register as many students as possible during this time to allow the district to plan for the 2019-20 school year.  Read More...

Register now for STEM Camp 2019
Newark City Schools will be hosting a weeklong free STEM Camp for NCS students entering grades 3 -12 from June 17-21. This camp will be centered around space and what it will take to build a colony on Mars. Students will explore the make-up of Mars (virtual reality), getting to Mars (rockets), exploring Mars (robotic rovers and drones), and building a colony structure (civil engineering). Students will also experience space/science at The Works and take a “Journey to Mars” in the SciDome, a 30 ft, 4K projection planetarium. Registration forms are available at all NCS buildings and are due back to your principal by May 17.
