UPDATE: Building the set for Singin in the Rain, NHS Spring Musical

The Newark High School Drama Department will present the classic movie musical, “Singin’ in the Rain,” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday at the auditorium. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.

“Singin’ in the Rain” has all the makings of a Tinseltown tabloid headline: The starlet, the leading man and a love affair that could change lives and make or break careers! In silent movies, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item, but behind the scenes things aren’t always as they appear on the big screen! Meanwhile, Lina’s squeaky voice might be the end of her career in “talking pictures” without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her.

Throughout the week, check the school district website, Facebook and Twitter pages for behind-the-scenes looks at this year’s musical, including student-produced videos about set construction and the filming of the black-and-white movie clips that will be used during the live performance. We will also post a photo gallery from dress rehearsal and an audio podcast with actors from the show. The posts will go “live” at about 9 a.m. every day, Monday through Thursday.
