NHS, McGuffey earn All American School Awards

McGuffey Elementary Principal, Cindy Baker, accepts the All-American Elementary School Award

Newark High School and McGuffey Elementary recently earned the American Legion Auxiliary All American School Awards at the state level. NHS won in the high school division, while McGuffey won in the elementary division.

The NHS Air Force Jr. ROTC competed in the American Legion Auxiliary All American High School Contest that led to the award. This is the third consecutive year the high school has won the award; it is the first time McGuffey has won.

As part of the process, the schools proved their Americanism through the following ways: U.S. flag display; daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance; participation in the National Americanism Essay Contest; numerous presentations of the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance; History of the U.S. Flag and flag etiquette; staff patriotic pride; and providing leadership in many patriotic community events.

All of this was supported by a 100-word statement defending our receipt of the award complete with a photo album documenting the many aspects of the school's Americanism efforts.
