Phase 2 for Newark athletics begins June 15

The Newark Athletic Department has announced phase 2 for teams returning for workouts. Athletes and coaches will continue to take temperatures at home, and will not be permitted to attend with temperatures higher than 100.4 degrees. Full guidelines are available by clicking here. PHASE 2      JUNE 15 – JUNE 28

Newark City School Athletes and Coaches ONLY

Gymnasium Schedule

The gyms will be used as follows:
Girls B-ball - Aux - 7:00am-11:00am - 4 groups
Volleyball - Main - 6:00am-9:00am - 3 Groups
Boys Basketball - 9:00am-12:00pm - 3 groups
I might add an additional group at 12:00.

Here is the schedule for phase 2 in the weight room at this point:

7:15-7:35 - Girls B-ball - Pod 2   
7:45-8:05 - Girls B-ball - Pod 1 
8:25-8:45 - Girls B-ball - Pod 3   
9:15-9:35 - Boys B-ball - Pod 2   
9:50-10:10 - Boys B-ball - Pod 1 
10:20-10:40 - Boys B-ball - Pod 3 

There is at least 10 or 20 minutes between groups, so you have time to sanitize and clean.

Cross Country – 7:00am-9:00am – Monday / Wednesday / Friday - Bike Path / Track / Fence Perimeter

Tennis – NHS Tennis Courts – 9:00-11:15





Volleyball • No scrimmages or games permitted. • Players can each do skills drills with a volleyball that is shared.  Coaches will need to have enough volleyballs so that each player may have their own. 

Football • No scrimmages (including 7-on-7) or games permitted. • No plastic shield covering the entire face (or attached to a helmet) shall not be allowed during practices or play. • Only “non-contact football” is permitted. • Players can each do skills drills with a football.   All equipment used should be cleaned intermittently. 

Tennis • Competition is permitted. • Avoid exchanging documents or equipment before, during or after the event. • Players should arrive no more than 10 minutes early for practice; wait until the group ahead of you has left the court; and allow 6-feet between individuals in all areas. • Players should not touch other players’ equipment (i.e. racquets, tennis balls, gear, etc.) and should avoid using your hand to pick up tennis balls. (Use your racquet/foot to pick up balls to hit back to your opponent on another court.) • Players should use owned tennis balls (i.e. clearly mark yours or use a different color) and avoid touching gates, fences, benches, using locker rooms, etc. • Parents/Guardians should not enter the playing area.

Cross Country • No scrimmages or events permitted. • Runners should remain six feet between other individuals at all times, including when running. 

Golf • Competition is permitted. • Players should wait until the tee box is completely cleared of the group ahead prior to entering. • Players should not touch other players’ clubs, golf balls, carts, etc. and should leave flagsticks in the hole. • Players should not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to teeing off and should wait in the vehicle until the coach arrives. • Wear a mask if in close proximity to other golfers. • Cannot gather in groups of more than 10 (including the coach). 

Soccer • No scrimmages or games permitted. • Players may share a ball. Balls must be cleaned intermittently.

Cheer • No cheer events/performances/competition permitted. • Athletes may not practice/perform partner stunts or building. • Chants, jumps, dances, etc. without contact are permissible. 

Wrestling • No matches permitted. • Skills and drills may occur without touching a teammate. 

Swimming • Competition is permitted. • Swimmers should be spaced out properly in each lane.

Bowling • No scrimmages or games permitted. • Athletes should be spaced out properly per lane pairs. 

Basketball • No scrimmages or games permitted. • Players can each do skills/drills with a basketball.  Basketballs should be cleaned intermittently. 

Baseball & Softball • Competition is permitted. When playing a game: o Coaches must exchange a list of coaches, ball boys/girls, scorekeepers and athletes at the start of the game and retain these lists throughout the summer. This should include, at a minimum, each head coach’s name, phone number and mailing address. This is in case someone becomes a confirmed COVID-19 case. o Compliant game balls must be designated to each team to be used on defense only. o If you host a tournament on-site, you must notify the Licking County Health Dept of the event prior to holding it. o Paper lineup cards should not be exchanged with officials of the other team. oo Equipment (i.e. bats, helmets, batting gloves, gloves, gear, masks, etc.) should not be shared by players. o The “handshake line” is to be avoided at the conclusion of the game. This relates to team-to-team, team-to-umpire, coach-to-coach and coach-to-umpire. o Spectators must stay off the field of play, in dugouts, etc. and 6-feet back of the backstop. o Remind umpire to allow adequate distance behind the catcher while still able to perform their duty.

ATHLETES WILL STAY AT THEIR STATION
(NO CIRCUITS)

ATHLETES WILL CLEAN THEIR STATION AFTER THEY LIFT – WITH A SANITIZING WIPES

THIS INCLUDES –BENCHS, BARS, PULL-UPS, DIPS, DUMBELLS, KETTLE BELLS.

COACHES WILL USE SANITIZER TO CLEAN ALL AREAS BETWEEN GROUPS LEAVING AND ENTERING.  GLOVES MUST BE USED.

ANY BENCHES THAT HAVE HOLES OR RIPS - MUST NOT BE USED.

ATHLETES MUST WAIT UNTIL ALL EQUIPMENT IS DRY BEFORE USE

CUSTODIAL STAFF WILL CLEAN THE ENTIRE WEIGHT-ROOM AFTER ALL ATHLETES AND COACHES HAVE VACATED THE AREA
