Newark City Schools will be offering lunch and breakfast to children ages 2 to 18 at no cost, once per day starting Tuesday, Sept. 8. This is because the USDA passed a ruling to allow us to serve at no cost 1 lunch and 1 breakfast a day Monday through Friday, through December 31.
Meals will continue to be served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at our buildings while students are learning virtually. Students can pick up 1 lunch and 1 breakfast meal daily between those times. Once we return to in-person classes, meals will be offered at regularly scheduled times for all students at no charge.
Even though meals will be available at no charge, it is still very important for families to fill out free and reduced price lunch forms. These forms impact school fee waivers for students and helps provide additional district funding for technology, security, wellness, Title 1 and more. Also, another round of P-EBT cards may be released this fall. Updated free/reduced price lunch forms are needed to qualify for those cards.
