Calendar approved for 2024-25 school year - change to delay days
A new school year calendar for the 2024-2025 school year was approved by the Newark Board of Education during its March 11, 2024, meeting. The calendar replaces the previous, monthly late arrival days with four full-day professional development days spread throughout the school year. The change to professional development days comes following the recent approval of a new contract with the Newark Teachers' Association. The change will be better for students, families and staff members.

The four full PD days are scheduled for one per quarter. Two of the days will take place during election days - 
  • Monday, September 23, 2024
  • Tuesday, November 5, 2024 (election day)
  • Friday, Feb. 28, 2025
  • Tuesday, May 6, 2025 (election day)
Other important dates for families:
  • Thurs., Aug. 15 - First day of school (except for kindergarten and grades 7-8, and 10-12)
    • Kindergarten screening and phase-in days occur during the first 6 days of school; other grades will begin on Friday, Aug. 16
  • Nov. 27-29 - Thanksgiving Break/Parent-Teacher Conf. Exchange Day (No School)
  • Dec. 23-Jan. 3 - Holiday Break (No School)
  • March 24-March 28 - Spring Break (No School)
  • April 18 - Good Friday (No School)
  • April 21 - Parent-Teacher Exchange Day (No School)
  • May 23 - Last Day for Students
  • May 24 - Graduation
