The Newark City Schools provide comprehensive, curricular, instructional, and assessment programs to serve the educational needs of students. The Newark Board of Education has the responsibility for establishing what students should learn. As a result, the Board adopts a District curriculum which, to the extent possible, reflects the desires of the community, the needs of society, and the requirements of law.
Curriculum development, implementation, and/or improvement is a key factor in student achievement and it is a continuous process in our school district.
The Newark City Schools will provide families with information about the progress of the school in achieving state standards. If a Newark school does make progress, students may be eligible for extra tutoring and allowed to attend a different school. Parents/caregivers may also request information on the qualifications of their child's teacher and any paraprofessionals that work with their child.
The Board recognizes that effective curriculum development requires the planned allocation of resources, staff time, and staff development.
