January 2020 Citizens of the Month
Every month, Newark City Schools honors 30 students in grades 4-12 in a district-wide Citizen of the Month Luncheon. These students were chosen as they displayed acts of leadership, kindness and service in the classroom and around the school. January’s event took place on Friday, January 24, and was sponsored by the Newark Rotary Club. Congratulations to all of the students honored. Parent scheduling and College Credit Plus meetings set for Feb. 11 at NHS
Newark High School is hosting two meetings on Tuesday, Feb. 11, for families of students currently in grades 8-11 to start getting ready for next school year. A parent scheduling meeting is set for 5 to 6 p.m. This is for any parents who have questions about the scheduling process for NHS. A meeting that explains the process for signing up for College Credit Plus will follow from 6 to 7 p.m. Any students and families interested in College Credit Plus during the 2020-21 school year must attend this meeting. Incredible 5-Point Scale workshop set for Feb. 10
The Incredible 5-Point Scale is a workshop geared toward assisting students in interacting socially and controlling their emotional responses. This behavior support is used to teach social understanding and provides a visual representation of social behaviors, emotions, and abstract ideas. Newark City Schools is hosting this workshop from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 10, at the Administrative Service Center, 621 Mount Vernon Road in Newark. Positive Parenting Program, Dealing with Disobedience, set for Feb. 13
The Positive Parent Program "Dealing with Disobedience" will be presented from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, at The Licking County Family YMCA's John and Christine Warner Family Center. This program will highlight some of the reasons why children may be disobedient, give suggestions and advice about dealing with certain disciplinary situations, and ultimately make the home a more fruitful environment. More information about the event is available by clicking here.  Read More...

Wildcat athletics to induct 5 to Hall of Fame on Jan. 17
Newark Wildcat athletics will induct five new members to the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame prior to the Wildcat boys basketball game against New Albany on Fri., Jan. 17. A ceremony will follow the game in the Commons. Congratulations to the 2020 Newark Athletic Hall of Fame inductees: Matt Hardy, Class of 2003; David Jones, Class of 1984; Mark Oberholtzer, Class of 1980; Anni Thomasson, Class of 2013; and Fred Pryor, Class of 1957.
