NHS senior named National Merit Semifinalist
NHS senior named National Merit Semifinalist
Newark High School Senior Steven Chiacchira has been named as a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, qualifying based on his score in the 2018 Preliminary SAT (PSAT). Of the 1.5 million juniors nationwide who took the test, about 16,000 have been selected as semifinalists. Semifinalists have scored in the top 1 percent of all students who took the test.

Newark City Schools now offers online student registration and back-to-school forms. Please click the above link to find the Online Forms page. If you are filling out your back-to-school paperwork, your username is your child's student ID; your password is your child's birthdate in MMDDYY format. Please log in with that information. If you are registering a student new-to-the-district, you would click on "New Student Registration" and create a new account.

NCS achieves highest graduation rate on-record
The Newark City Schools' Class of 2018’s graduation rate reached 88.2 percent — the district’s highest graduation rate on-record, and nearly a 20 percent increase compared to 2008.  
 
“This increase means that more of our students are ready for life after high school, and it’s also an important indicator that the things we focus on are working,” Superintendent Doug Ute said.

Five NHS students qualify for OMEA Regional Orchestra
Five NHS students qualify for OMEA Regional Orchestra
Five members of the Newark High School orchestra program were chosen to be part of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) East Central Region Orchestra this fall. The students competed against other students from 21 counties in East Central Ohio by submitting solo recordings of themselves. The regional orchestra will rehearse for two full days prior to a public concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Granville High School. The students who qualified from Newark are: Aiden Nease, senior violin; Noel Zarnosky, junior viola; William Chiacchira, sophomore viola; Summer Davis, senior viola; and Amonie Akens, senior string bass.  Read More...

Annual $10,000 award honoring NHS senior baseball players announced by Froelich family
Newark High School alumni Pam (Bays) and Dave Froelich have announced a $10,000 annual award for up to three Newark Varsity Baseball seniors. The award — “The Crimson Frog” — is designed to recognize players who exhibit exceptional performance in hustle, attitude, leadership, teamplay and sportsmanship. The Froelichs — Pam, a 1964 NHS grad, and Dave, a 1963 NHS grad — are proud supporters of NHS and Wildcat baseball. To be eligible for The Crimson Frog, awardees must be a senior with plans to attend college, and must attend a one-hour class on situational baseball in both his junior and senior years.
