Communications Office

The Communications Office is tasked with making connections between the school district and the community and with media and public relations.

The office is responsible for Newark City Schools' social media presence, which includes various accounts on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The district’s online presence has grown to more than 8,000 Facebook fans and 4,400 Twitter followers on the main district accounts, and continues to grow and engage with students, parents and the community.

The department manages the district website re-design, handles media requests and takes thousands of photos across the district.

The office also assists the TV Media Arts program at Newark High School in creating content for Channel 1021, the local cable access channel available through Spectrum Cable. The program frequently livestreams events, including concerts and athletic contests, on its Vimeo channel, The Wildcat Network.

The department is assisted by staff members district wide who update the website, take pictures and manage building-level social media accounts. A Communications Advisory Committee featuring teachers, board members, parents, community members and alumni has also been established to provide guidance on district community efforts.
