School Safety forum set for Jan. 28

Join officials from Newark City Schools, the Newark Police Department, the Newark Fire Department and the Newark Mayor’s Office as we discuss school safety at 6:30 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 28 in the Newark High School Commons. District to add text messages to all-call service

With winter approaching, the Newark City School District is adding text messages to our notification service. The district uses SchoolMessenger to communicate important messages to families, including closings, delays and other announcements. Beginning on November 19, text messages will be added to the ways we communicate with families. At 5 p.m. on Nov. 19, families with cell phones will receive a text message from the number, 67587, asking if they would like to receive text messages. Every month, Newark City Schools honors 30 students in grades 4 through 12 in each of our buildings as Citizens of the Month. Students are chosen not only for their work inside the classroom, but also their leadership outside the classroom. This month's luncheon was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Newark, Ohio. Carson Elementary recognized with 2018 PBIS Bronze Award

Carson Elementary received the 2018 Ohio PBIS Bronze Recognition Award recently, and will be honored in November for the award. The Ohio PBIS Network & State Support Teams identify schools that exemplify best practices in the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). A recognized school demonstrates best practices within its system, and also is open and transparent in the sharing of their knowledge and resources with other schools.
