After-School program funding at-risk

After-School programs across Ohio could lose funding in the future. No new 21st Century Grants will be awarded for next year as of right now. Please read this story from the Columbus Dispatch about the issue. At Newark City Schools, we have After School programs (funded through these grants) at six of our schools, serving 280 students and their families. Our Wilson and Heritage Middle School grants expire this year, and will not be able to be renewed. Our elementary programs (Carson, Ben Franklin, McGuffey and Cherry Valley) have one more year in their grants, but will expire after the 2017-18 school year. These programs help students with life skills, and give them a safe place to stay after school. They get homework help, learn some basic cooking skills and participate in many other activities. If you would like to help by contacting legislators and the Ohio Department of Education, please click here for more information. More +
