Student bus stop information now available

The postcards that are sent home to parents with bus stop information should reach home by the end of the week, Aug. 18. The bus garage is slightly behind in setting up the bus routes this year due to some technology issues. We are hoping to get the postcards in the mail tomorrow, Wed., Aug. 15. In the meantime, families can find out their students' bus stop times, bus numbers and animal names by visiting their child's school. Open House Schedule

The first day of school is quickly approaching on Tues., Aug. 21. On that day, students in grades 1-6 and 9 will start their school year. Students in grades 7-8 and 10-12 will begin attending on Wed., Aug. 22. This allows for students new to middle and high school to more easily transition into their new school buildings. Kindergarten students phase in to the school year with screening appointments scheduled by the individual buildings. Open houses begin on Aug. 14 depending on the school. Register new students now for 2018-19 school year

Parents can register their students for the 2018-19 school year at our district office, the former Roosevelt Middle School at 621 Mount Vernon Road. Registration is available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, but will last until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Aug. 1, 8 and 15, to accommodate parents who may work later.  Children who turn 5 years old by September 30 of this year are eligible to enter kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year. Every month, Newark City Schools honors 28 students in grades 4 through 12 in each of our buildings as Citizens of the Month. Students are chosen not only for their work inside the classroom, but also their leadership outside the classroom. Thank you to the Wilson Middle School Band for performing during the lunch. Newark City Schools Partner with Life-Saving Public Preparedness Program to Equip Educators

The Newark City School District announced an official partnership with citizenAID North America (citizenAID). This partnership will provide the system nearly 300 of citizenAID’s Public Treatment Kits and an additional 600 Educators, School Administrators and Coaches (ESAC) online courses to be distributed throughout the district.  The partnership was profiled on ABC 6 recently, which can be viewed at this link.
