Volunteering Opportunities at Hillview

We have many opportunities for volunteers here at Hillview from classroom parties to PTA events like the Bookfair, helping hands are needed. Newark City Schools requires that all volunteers complete a volunteer application form before working with students. Please complete the form and turn it in to the school office as soon as possible to allow for processing time.

Thank You!

Free & Reduced Meal Application

WHY fill out a Free & Reduced application?
The Newark City Schools Food Service Department participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and applications are a requirement to be part of the program. A submitted, approved application could qualify your child for Free or Reduced status and the following:

  1. When an application is submitted and approved for Free meals, the School Instructional Fees are waived at the end of the school year*
  2. All applications help Newark schools with Title I funding
  3.  All applications help Newark schools with Technology funding
  4. P-EBT: These funds which are provided from the NSLP are only sent to those students who qualify for Free or Reduced meals. School eligibility guidelines have varied the past school year. We are unsure at this time if P-EBT will be issued and or what conditions must be met.

No charge for student lunches for remainder of 2023-24 school year

Newark City Schools will offer student lunches for no charge for the remainder of the second semester after the Board of Education approved the change during its regular February board meeting earlier this week. The change will take effect on Tuesday, Feb. 20. District officials have determined that the district is able to offer lunches at no cost to students and families due to the financial stability of the food service budget.

Even though meals are currently offered at no charge for all students, it is important for families to fill out Free and Reduced Price Lunch forms if they have not yet done so. In addition to the food service budget, these forms affect district funding for technology, Title 1 and more departments that positively impact all Newark City Schools students. Additionally, any families who qualify for free lunches can have their fees waived.
